Diana Shipping Charters Kamsarmax Bulker to NYK Line

Greek dry bulk owner Diana Shipping has announced the signing of a time charter contract with Japan’s Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK Line) for one of its kamsarmax dry bulk carriers, reinforcing its long-term chartering strategy amid steady demand in the global sea freight market.

Charter Details

The vessel involved is the Leonidas P. C, an 82,165 dwt kamsarmax built in 2014. Under the agreement, the ship will earn a gross charter rate of USD 14,000 per day, less a 5% commission paid to third parties. The charter period runs from a minimum of September 15, 2026, up to a maximum of November 15, 2026.

The time charter is scheduled to commence on September 24, 2025, and is expected to generate approximately USD 4.93 million in gross revenue for the minimum contracted period.

Fleet Profile

Diana Shipping currently operates a fleet of 36 dry bulk vessels, which includes:

  • 4 Newcastlemaxes
  • 8 Capesizes
  • 4 Post-Panamaxes
  • 6 Kamsarmaxes
  • 5 Panamaxes
  • 9 Ultramaxes

The combined carrying capacity of the fleet—excluding two newbuildings still to be delivered—is approximately 4.1 million dwt, with a weighted average age of 11.83 years.

Future Deliveries

Looking ahead, the company expects delivery of two methanol dual-fuel newbuilding kamsarmax bulkers, scheduled for the second half of 2027 and the first half of 2028, respectively. These eco-friendly additions will enhance Diana Shipping’s compliance with tightening environmental and fuel-efficiency standards in global shipping.
